My dear Amery,

I have considered your letter of the 18th

instant regarding Hong Kong's offer of £250,000 towards

the cost of enlarging the Singapore Base. Before I

can reply to the point whether military contribution is

leviable on this sum I would like to know what my rights

in the matter are, and before I can be certain on this

question I want to mow how the mulley was earned and

during what year it was received - perhaps you would

inform me on these points.
